The irrefutable existence of fulfilled prophecy is a topic which has been the source of many writings and many teachings by some who have devoted an entire career to setting them forth in some fashion. I have here touched upon only a few of them. There are yet a great number of these to be found throughout Scripture.
Perhaps the greatest subject of such fulfilled prophecies in the entire Bible is the Messiah of God. Below I have listed several of these which are found in The Old Testament along with the record of their being fulfilled in the New Testament. All of these found their fulfillment in Jesus, The Christ of The Living God.
- Isaiah 7:14 … he was to be born of a virgin ….. fulfilled …. Matthew 1:22
- II Samuel 7:11-12 … He was to have the right to the throne of David … fulfilled … Luke 1:31-32
- Isaiah 7:14 … He was to be called Immanuel … fulfilled … Matthew 1:23
- Isaiah 40:3-5, Malichi 3:1 … he was to have a forerunner … fulfilled … Luke 1:76-78, Matthew 3:1-3
- Micah 5:2 … he was to be born in Bethlehem … fulfilled … Matthew 2:5-6
- Psalms 72:10 … he was to be worshipped by wise men and receive gifts … fulfilled … Matthew 2:11
- Numbers 24:8, Hosea 11:1 … he was to be in Egypt for a season … fulfilled … Matthew 2:15
- Jeremiah 31:15 … his place of birth would suffer a slaughter of innocents… fulfilled … Matthew: 2:17-18
- Psalms 69:9 … he would be zealous for the house of God … fulfilled … John 2:16-17
- Isaiah 11:2 … the spirit of The Lord shall rest upon him … fulfilled … Luke: 4:18-19
- Isaiah 53:4-5 … he would heal many … fulfilled … Matthew 8:16-17
- Isaiah 42:1-4 … he would deal gently with the Gentiles … fulfilled … Matthew 12:16-21
- Isaiah 6:9-10 … he would speak in parables … fulfilled … Matthew 13:3-18
- Isaiah 53:2-4 … he would be rejected by his own … fulfilled … John 1:10-12; 7:5.
- Zechariah: 9-9 … he would make a triumphal entry into Jerusalem … fulfilled … Matthew 21:2-5.
- Psalms 22 … he would be crucified with all that this entailed … fulfilled … See Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, and John 19.
- Psalms 34:20 … none of his bones would be broken … fulfilled … John 19:30-36
- Isaiah 53:9 …. he would be buried with the rich … fulfilled … Mathew 27:57-60
- Psalms 16:10 … he would rise from the dead … fulfilled … Matthew 28:2-10
- Isaiah 52:13 … he would ascend … fulfilled … Mark 16:15-19, Luke 24:45-51
While these which I have selected set forth events prophesied and fulfilled in the life of Jesus Christ, they are by no means the total of such Scriptural passages. As I close this portion of this guide, I would quote the writing of John’s gospel. It is written.
“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.”
